This palace served as a hunting lodge, home, and then a royal court of French kings Louis XIII, Louis XIV, and Louis XV. The palace is surrounded by sprawling gardens, an example of formal French garden design.
Embassy of France in the United States This site offers a taste of French culture and an overview of other aspects of Gallic life. One section is a quick snapshot of France's society, culture, economy, foreign policy and institutions. There is also a more detailed A to Z index. There is an online version of France magazine. The site is also available in French and Spanish.

Paris Learn about the City of Light at this comprehensive site. The City section features photos of street scenes, well-known cafes, major stores, theatres, clubs, maps and information. The Culture area features information on monuments, museums, exhibitions, a collection of historical maps, and a clickable map of the attractions. The Kiosque is the site's magazine. The site is available in French.
Presidence de la Republique http://www.elysee.fr/ang/index.shtm This is the official of the Elysee Palace, home of the French President. There are guided tours of the palace and other presidential residences. Included is the history of the Elysee and you can access the text of presidential statements and addresses. There is a news magazine that details the president's activities.
