FRESHMAN WOW ...
Freshman WOW, a new academic program for ninth grade students at Woodbridge High School, will begin in fall 2009. This program is funded through an AT&T Aspire Grant in partnership with Irvine Unified School District and the Irvine Public Schools Foundation. Freshman WOW provides support to maintain a ‘college going culture’ for selected incoming ninth grade students.
The program includes:
FRESHMAN WOW Students WILL:

FRESHMAN WOW Students :

...are prepared for their high school courses

...learn what it takes to get into college

...work harder in the classroom

...get to know their counselor

...join 2 or more extra-curricular activities

...accept that they are smart and capable
-
...imagine themselves going to college
Prerequisites for FRESHMAN WOW Students :
- --Desire to go to college, are motivated to follow the college prep curricu-lum, but want extra support and guidance to make college a reality
- --Apply for admission to FRESHMANWOW (see link on this page for application)
- --Be nominated by the school principal, school counselor, or teachers at their middle school
- --Earn a GPA of 2.5 or higher in grade 8
- --Write a short essay about what they want to achieve in high school
- --Attend WOW camp in the summer
- --Meet with a mentor every week
- --Join in school activities
- --Attend workshops and Parents / guardians attend training
- --Complete practice college admissions tests
